Well....more a placebo, Still without an AV for Linux that deserves this name. The only protection for Linux was, that almost all Virus was made for Windows, giving a false security feeling, but this is changing quickly since some years.

An OS inmune to malware don't exist, it's only the question which is most the target of attackers, no other things. The only advantage is, Linux is easy and free to replace (if you notice an Virus, not always the case), but data, archives and documents are always exposed, independent of the OS (Root kits, spyware, ...)

Meh, I am still not convinced of Virus Scanners, even on windows. A process running with root rights, with parsers for all kinds of complicated file formats, opening freshly downloaded files automatically? Yeah, no.

Update your shit, don't download shady software, have good default settings in your browser and mail programs. Maybe throw in some MAC like SELinux if supported.

In Windows not longer needed, due to the experience through decades beeing the most atacked OS, nowadays the Defender among with the sandbox system is one of the best AV out there (independent AV Test). This certainly was bad for the traditional AV, which are now searching other victims, passing often to shady methodes to promote their product. Windows is (by default) a privacy nightmare, but in question security is currently pretty strong protected (at least one thing well made). Maybe also the reason why hackers now are more centred in Linux and Mac.
