Riders @ Stamps should be a good one!
I'm noticing that relative to previous years, Sunday games seem to have disappeared in favour of Saturday doubleheaders. Are they trying to avoid overlapping (preseason) No Fun League games?
Is there any chance they could both lose this one? It'd help the Bombers a lot.
I don't think I've heard anything about the reasoning re: Sundays, but I've definitely noticed it. Scheduling has been kind of odd across the board this year.
That's pretty far out, even for the Crazy Football League. May I interest you in a Lions loss? The Boatmen will do what they can to help this week 💪
What's the vibe in Toronto, anyway? Does hope spring eternal in the East?
No one knows about the Argos in Toronto. They're so under the radar. There are a lot of local teams, across sports, to choose from and Toronto's got/getting new womens teams as well (proper thing): PWHL (hockey, current), WNBA (basketball, to start soon), soccer (I think). Some like the Bills or other No Fun League teams. The same company owns the Raptors, Leafs, Argos - and Jays are not the same but similar - so maybe that explains the little effort to market the team, because maybe they don't care or their focus is elsewhere.
I feel like the East is pretty open this year with the Als' cool down of late. Ti-Cats are legit of course. Chad Kelly is practicing with the team this week. I'm looking for a reason to be optimistic and I'm going to go with "open East" and "Chad Kelly returns and puts the team on his back".
It hasn't been a fun season and losing to the Elks last week was no fun
The Winnipeg sports podcast I listen to really ripped into MLSE and the league for next year's Toronto "home" games in Hamilton, Winnipeg, and Regina - they argued that this is a prime opportunity to host some games on the East Coast, or in Quebec City, or elsewhere in Ontario - any place they could go to generate a little hype and grow the game. Instead, it seems like they're taking the easy cash-grab route, and ruining any semblance of a home field advantage for the Argos.
It's a shame to see them underperforming so far this year, but maybe they'll get it together. Still lots of games to be played.
Great take on that Winnipeg sports podcast about MLSE's missed opportunity re: Argos home field games next year. It feels so representative of team ownership behaviour. I love those games in Halifax. CFL games in other places would be so neat and good for the league
