"Since the fall of the iron curtain, dramatic change has come to the countries east of the old border. During this time a new dividing line emerged, running right along the eastern boundary of the European Union.

From Gibraltar to the Urals, we consider ourselves Europeans even if our differences are many. And borders can be drawn just about anywhere. Which lines are important for our own identities? No one doubts that Parisians are Western Europeans and Muscovites are Eastern Europeans, but what about the people in between? The Baltic states are now considered Western countries - but not Kaliningrad, despite its location to the west of Lithuania.

White Sea Black Sea is a visual journey in the borderland between Eastern and Western Europe, from Arkhangelsk in the north to Odessa in the south – moments in time and fragments of lives from a borderland in transition."
