Heaven needed their own three headed dog to not be one-upped by Lucifer's pup, Cerberus. This dude replaced St. Peter at the gates. Not to guard them, but to get pets and lick everyone entering.

That is Cerberus when you get let into heaven. If you aren't allowed in it becomes the angry version.
