Community rules (click to expand)
1. Follow the site-wide rules
- Instance-wide TOS: https://legal.lemmy.world/tos/
- Lemmy code of conduct: https://join-lemmy.org/docs/code_of_conduct.html
2. Be civil
- Understand the difference between a joke and an insult.
- Do not harrass or attack users for any reason. This includes using blanket terms, like "every user of thing".
- Don't get baited into back-and-forth insults. We are not animals.
- Leave remarks of "peasantry" to the PCMR community. If you dislike an OS/service/application, attack the thing you dislike, not the individuals who use it. Some people may not have a choice.
- Bigotry will not be tolerated.
3. Post Linux-related content
- Including Unix and BSD.
- Non-Linux content is acceptable as long as it makes a reference to Linux. For example, the poorly made mockery of
sudo
in Windows. - No porn, no politics, no trolling or ragebaiting.
4. No recent reposts
- Everybody uses Arch btw, can't quit Vim, <loves/tolerates/hates> systemd, and wants to interject for a moment. You can stop now.
5. 🇬🇧 Language/язык/Sprache
- This is primarily an English-speaking community. 🇬🇧🇦🇺🇺🇸
- Comments written in other languages are allowed.
- The substance of a post should be comprehensible for people who only speak English.
- Titles and post bodies written in other languages will be allowed, but only as long as the above rule is observed.
6. (NEW!) Regarding public figures
We all have our opinions, and certain public figures can be divisive. Keep in mind that this is a community for memes and light-hearted fun, not for airing grievances or leveling accusations. - Keep discussions polite and free of disparagement.
- We are never in possession of all of the facts. Defamatory comments will not be tolerated.
- Discussions that get too heated will be locked and offending comments removed.
Please report posts and comments that break these rules!
Important: never execute code or follow advice that you don't understand or can't verify, especially here. The word of the day is credibility. This is a meme community -- even the most helpful comments might just be shitposts that can damage your system. Be aware, be smart, don't remove France.

It is not, this post breaks rule 5.
racism? against whom?
No this post does NOT break rule 5:
I speak absolutely zero Spanish, yet I understand the post text about 80%, enough to get the gist of it.
That Linux runs Grand Theft Auto faster with Proton on Steam than on native Windows 11.
Yeah, I only speak some rough Spanglish due to being raised near the border, and I can understand the gist of this meme through context alone.
Well it is true one can deduce the gist of it, but not the exact message. So I guess the rule has to be clearer on this.
Seems to me in this case, the people have voted.
Currently 98 upvotes and 15 downvotes for the post.
fair
This is perfectly readable for anyone familiar with either Spanish or memeish.
Actually, I'd argue this is already translated into American Memeish. Mexico and Spain have their own meme subcultures that don't have direct translations into American Memeish, let alone all the other Spanish speaking countries.
This is about some people no being able to comprehend anything from the posts beside from symbols. This could be in the most obscure of languages and any person with a brain that knows memes can understand the basic idea. I'm just saying the verbal part in the post is not comprehensible to all people, which happens to break the rule 5.
I do not care what language it is on, Spanish is my native language, I just want everyone to able to read and understand.
I want to know if you downvoted my emoji comment because you didn't understand it, or because you did and got mad that I disproved your point about needing words.
Keep in mind I haven't downvoted any of your comments.
Not mad, the comment was not adding anything of value in my opinion because it was not clear what it meant. So the down vote is for "this comment is not useful and perhaps lazy". I also upvote things which I do not agree with but they are proposed in a civil manner, and when I'm proven wrong I say " thanks for letting me know this". So... This is not personal.
And I never claimed that anything (post, comment or whatever) needed words to have meaning. Not sure what your point is though...

The substance >< the exact message.
gracias capitán obvio
Digga, das juckt keinen!
Not really, I'm sure someone who "only speaks English" can get the gist of it.
I don't speak Spanish and I understood everything.
Not sure why you’ve gotten downvoted for that, as it’s part of the referenced rule and also true. Unless you’re someone who sees a word in a foreign language and has their brain turn off in response, this should be intelligible to someone who understands English and who doesn’t understand Spanish.
It helps that more than half the words are in English / are used by English speakers: Steam, Proton, Grand Theft Auto 5, Gabe Newell, Linux Mint, Microsoft, Windows, RAM, 100 FPS, 75 FPS
And the important Spanish words are easy to understand:
“Gracias” is pretty commonly understood even by bon-Spanish speakers.
“Uso Software Libre” is pretty obvious, since Libre is a term used in FOSS communities. “Uso” is the most complicated part and I suspect if I didn’t know Spanish I’d just think it meant “Use,” and “Use Libre Software!” is close enough to the intended meaning
Unless Telemetria doesn’t mean Telemetry, it’s pretty obvious.
If I blanked out all the other Spanish words I think the effect would be pretty much the same.
