Also drives business for healthcare providers. Everyone wants long-term, desperate customers with no alternatives with inelastic demand(will pay anything). It's the entire US healthcare model.

not exactly, they want to healthy non-insurance using customers, chronically ill people are costly to insurance companies, they rather not insure them,. its the pharm companies that would benefit from chronically ill patients.

chronically ill people cuts into the profits the insurance companies alot more. thats why they always price out older customers, or the chronically ill ones.
