The US is sidelining itself at the moment by alienating and making unreasonable requests to trade partners.
The point is not to permanently unweave relations, but to resist unreasonable requests, since giving in to Trump only embolden him.
The door need to remain open, as the US may one day became a more reasonable partner.
Europe is fighting for it's survival right now and the US is attacking Europe as well. I don't see this US government changing anytime soon, as I stopped believing in any fair elections. Until that's the case, I would like that door as closed as possible. If at one time the situation improves, by all means, open that door and we can be friends. But it can never ever be the way as it was. Europe MUST be able to defend itself and take its place in the world.
