Unless you’re part of their culture, Hasidic Jews are tough to get along with

I am kind of not big on communities like that (and Amish, as another example). You shouldn't be able to just opt out of the social contract like that, and still benefit from the state's largess. I believe the ultra orthodox in Israel are even exempt from the nation's mandatory conscription.

Has nothing to do with religion or ideology, it's more about fairness imo.

What contract are you talking about

I meant which social contract are they breaking

[–] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Literally living in our society and taking advantage of our shared infrastructure

[–] BackgrndNoize@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Every person alive is doing that, how are they breaking social contract, is that because they don't socialize with people outside of their community, well that's their perogative, are you saying they don't pay taxes, neither does the church and clergy, so what social contract are they breaking?

You seem to be pissed about something you can't even articulate well, maybe reflect on that

Specifically Israel: https://www.quora.com/Why-do-ultra-Orthodox-or-Haredi-Jewish-people-have-special-rights-in-Israel

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exemption_from_military_service_in_Israel

Though apparently the Israeli Supreme Court ruled against the ultra-Orthodox regarding the military service exemption in 2024 so maybe that's not a thing anymore.

Hasids in the US don't allow their women to interact with men. The Amish are exempt from many taxes in the US.

They are so insular that they are essentially small countries within a host country. It's just not compatible with a free and open society imo.

Edit: One exemption I can think of is Native Reservations, since it's their fucking land in the first place.

No one's talking about Israel though, also many other communities are insular like that in the US try moving to a small redneck town or just being any shade other than white and you'll see how groups behave differently around you, I don't support it, but as I said that's their right, you can't force people to socialize anyway, and taxes should be paid by everyone, you can't call out one group and then ignore the others

No one’s talking about Israel though,

Literally the comment I initially replied to:

Unless you’re part of their culture, Hasidic Jews are tough to get along with

I wasn't just calling out one group. they were just the examples that came to mind. I think you're lost in the sauce dude, go back and read what my actual point was.

Those rednecks are like that because they've got their own insular communities. It's part of the same problem.

sure as shit dont even try and talk to them if you're a "small hole"
