Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Do you prefer to okay melee only? Do you 100% every area you come across? Do you stick to a particular weapon type throughout your playthrough?

Personally I like to do this:

No spoilers or looking anything up for the first play through.

Play solo and no summons for bosses (it just breaks the boss patterns and makes them stupid easy)

Use items the moment you find a “non standard”enemy that’s weak to them.

Always upgrade stamina first.

And finally:

Take your damn time with the first run and enjoy combing over everything with a fine brush.

Those are really the only “rules” that I like to stick with to maximize my enjoyment of souls games.

I love to coop souls games and usually have a blast, especially when getting invaded but I do find I get a more satisfying experience playing them solo and taking my time exploring at my own pace and learning the boss patterns.
