I haven't heard a single European country claim to have defeated poverty. My country (NL) has an increasing gap between rich and poor, and there are people living below the poverty line (mostly because people keep voting for stupid right wing parties that keep cutting social programs and welfare, but that's a rant for another day)
But at least there still is welfare, there are still funds that people can ask for from the government.

And yes, there's homelessness here too. There's also homeless shelters. Even in my dinky little town. It's not great, but it's something. And I can only hope that we can get some socialism back in our government so that those who need it can get a more humane treatment.
