we sometimes worry about US civil war as an insurrection instead of as an ethnic cleansing operation or an oppression operation as political distraction from oligarchist corporatism.

Reading the article you linked made me realise that the Spanish civil war is much more complex than I thought...

So, wrong analogy I guess. There was a lot of fighting before the massive repression by the Spanish government.

The section I pointed out resulted in left wing winning next election. Then the outright coup-> civil war, against that election. Seemed like there could be more details about how much of an asshole that government was.

But the leftwing government was engaged in fuckery before the coup, too ... the whole thing was very complex, and remains a deep wound between people here in Spain.
