Trump's very explicitly and unapologetically idolizes Mussolini and hopes to emulate Mussolini's government.

But past that... these are different people operating in different eras under starkly different conditions.

The '30s era fascists emerged in the wake of the Great Depression, following on the heels of a horrifying World War that eviscerated the continent.

Modem 21st century fascism is emerging in an era of unprecedented surplus and prosperity, with the wealthiest nations on Earth mobilizing the idle accumulated Cold War military assets to play tug of war with everyone else.

"Trump is Hitler" is dated and out of touch. He's a creature of the modern era. His own beast.

There are many op-eds from the 30s where you would think Trump was being discussed. Geopolitics are radically different, but it's surprising how much they had in common personality wise.

The problem is that the wealth is consolidating in the hands of a few, with the plebs seeing none of it. A lot of us might as well be living through a depression, despite the economy.
