How is a TikTok screenshot fundamentally different from a screenshot of a tweet or posting an image from instagram? Those are "accepted" definitions of a meme. We get it, you don't like TikTok because that's just the "company bad" flavor of the month. You need to adjust your own definition of a meme unless you just want to be the guy at the bottom of a post who was irrationally negative for a wholly arbitrary reason. Not tryin to argue or hate, I'm just sayin that I was that guy for a long time and it's impossible to describe the relief I feel today knowing that I'm not that person anymore.
For what its worth, Instagram and twitter screenshots aren't memes either.
This has nothing to do with whether tiktok is the villain of the week.
Also, I give no shits if I'm at the bottom of some arbitrary list. I'm gonna speak the truth, even if I'm hated for it by dumb shits who think 'selfie with text' = 'meme'
Unfortunately, what you think does not have any bearing on what the consensus ends up being. What's a meme? Go read the book Memetics by Richard Dawkins who literally invented the term and concept. Most people would agree that the modern usage has strayed far from its original intended definition, and yet the modern usage will ultimately end up defining it. Your definition may have been correct in a certain place at a certain time, but now it's just meaningless and sticking to your guns only makes you look silly.
Don't care.
I'll die on this hill.
Call me stubborn, but I refuse to call a screenshot of a selfie with humourless text a 'meme'
