This is ironic as used by Alanis Morrisette... which is to say, this is not ironic at all, it's a predictable consequence from their actions.

It would be ironic to die by something they promote that is supposed to save/protect you

But let's not split hairs here... the point is that the world is slightly better off today than it was yesterday
