After years of only owning a tapedeck, I finally bought myself a walkman. Walking to work just got a lot better!

Congrats!

I used to collect and restore walkmans, and still have a few left:

What is in your opinion one of the nicest one to have that has the best ability to produce the sound of the tape/ best quality audio components? I have seen recent players but they seem overkill for the amount of fidelity a cassette can contain

Player quality, both in terms of sound and build quality, peaked in the mid 90s, in my humble opinion.

Players like the WM-EX9 are favorites of mine and my go-to when I listen to tapes. If I'm feeling nostalgic I might use a WM-DC2.

If i don't need something quite as portable, the WM-D6C is hard to best, in terms of sound and general build quality.

The DC2 and D6C are getting prohibitively expensive, though.

If you want something that works well, sounds well and lasts, I'd look for a high-end Sony player from the mid to late 90s.
