Just so you know, the insistence of western liberals on reducing the word 'genocide' to just mean 'anything bad our enemies do' is a big part of how Israel was able to perform an actual genocide with as little push-back as it's getting.

That's a good point. Not what I was trying to do but it probably came off as that way to some. Thanks for the insight

Certainly that was what that nonsense about "Russia enacting their own genocide barely 1000 miles away" ultimately is

I wouldn't say the atrocities in Gaza or the Donbas are EQUAL, no, not at all. For one thing, the Ukrainians are actually allowed to fight back without being labeled as terrorists. But Russia's goals (and some actions, mostly conducted earlier in the conflict) certainly fit the definition of genocide

[–] BrainInABox@lemmy.ml 3 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

No, they don't; that's just the western liberal need to slap the genocide label on every bad thing enemy countries do (because they've already normalized every other war crime)

The internationally recognized, legal definition of a genocide is 'the deliberate or systematic destruction, in part or in whole, of a national, racial, ethnic, or religious group' including (among other things) the forcible transfer of children from one group to another. And Russia has been trying very hard for a while now to erase Ukrainians from eastern Ukraine and replace them with Russians.

‘the deliberate or systematic destruction, in part or in whole, of a national, racial, ethnic, or religious group’

Which Russia is not attempting to do.

And Russia has been trying very hard for a while now to erase Ukrainians from eastern Ukraine and replace them with Russians.

See what I mean? Western liberals will make up any old bullshit to accuse their enemies of genocide; which is a big part of why an actual genocide gets so little push back: because people like you have run the term into the ground.

Okay Botski, then what about this?

A lie, as usual for NATOpedia. Ukraine after years of insistence by Russia prepared list of... 339 names, of which 161 was found living with parents in Germany.
