So what is your point? What makes downvotes so bad?

I first thought you equated being down voted with being banned but your point was that being banned for down votes illustrate your point that Lemmy isn't better than reddit.
Exactly. At the end of the day, "unpopular" opinions just get silenced, even if harmless (if you aren't on some unpopularopinon sub, of course).
So you want unpopular opinions to be reacted to?
I mean, an opinion may unpopular but not necessarily evil (offensive/racist/sexist etc.). Often times, also not-evil unpopular opinions are just silenced (downvoted to hell) without any discussion.
What does "silenced" even mean? They aren't even hidden or something. I can't engage with everything. I barely downvote but often just ignore which would fall under silencing as well, wouldn't it? Or why not?
