My recommendation is to watch the final episode of the last season before watching the movie. I dont think that final season really had any substance to it but that final episode and movie transition directly into each other. The movie was good, but I wouldnt say its really worth going out of your way to see it unless you really like the anime. You can wait for it to come to streaming or pirate platforms.

If I recall, Infinity Castle became the #1 anime movie after surpassing the first demon slayer movie, Mugen Train at 500 million. I dont want to put anyone down for enjoying the anime, its a great anime for new watchers, but its nothing special. But thats why its breaking box office records, its an easy anime to get into and very, very newbie friendly.

You're fine. Your post reads like a much kinder take on Demon Slayer to what people used to say about both Attack on Titan and Sword Art Online: "baby's first anime." Because in 2013 both of those kind of blew up.

As someone who remembers .hack//SIGN, SAO was cool for being like the next version or iteration of that. And Attack on Titan was just cool. Sure, the second season fell off a bit, but it was overall good stuff. And I liked most of SAO... minus the SA scenes. The characterisations of the girls left a bit to be desired, but the books were written by a pretty young dude in a culture where holding hands with a girl is actually taboo so... I get it? Anyway, the sci-fi stuff is what appeals to me. Specifically the time dilation introduced in the third season (and plays out a lot more in the fourth).

@cerebralhawks watch the first and the second chapters, they are the ones that are based in actual manga chapters, all the other ones are fillings. They aren't bad for se, but don't let that stop you from an awesome movie.

That’s exactly what I did. I watched it kinda on and off because my wife was the one actually watching and I just sat in when I could. But I watched the last 2 episodes and it prepared me enough for the movie. Obviously my wife filled me in with some minor details on some characters’ backgrounds afterwards, but I didn’t feel lost during the movie. It’s also pretty easy to follow if you don’t have a hard time remembering how characters look like (DS has same-face syndrome), because the story is largely contained to 2 battles and 5 characters only.

Would you be willing to impart any suggestions for watchable anime?

[–] Bbbbbbbbbbb@lemmy.world 4 points 6 days ago

Ummm.....kind of? I believe anime as a medium is a very diverse entertainment product that I cannot just tell you "go watch X". I treat it akin to watching TV or movies, I dont know what you like so I cannot ask you to watch Lord of the Rings movie if you only really enjoy John Wick and Marvel.

Can you tell me what you like generally and maybe I can point you in a direction

Any particular genres you're looking for? Anime is a very diverse medium, it's like asking for readable books or listenable music.

But I'll just say Koe no Katachi/A Silent Voice anyway.

Thats true, my b.

I tend to like action roguelike elements. I don't care for a lot the "campy" feeling. Sword Art Online kind of blew my mind when I was ypunger.

Dorohedoro was also very cool.

I'll check out your recommendations, thanks!

Im not sure what you mean by "campy" feeling but Im pretty sure youll enjoy "86" and possibly "Hai to Gensou no Grimgar"
