Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu offered a heated response to the news that the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia had officially recognized the state of Palestine.

“I have a clear message to those leaders who recognize a Palestinian state after the terrible massacre on October 7: you are giving a huge reward to terrorism,” Netanyahu said in a statement. “And I have another message for you: it will not happen. A Palestinian state will not be established west of the Jordan River.”

I agree that, on a surface level, the justification seems reasonable, but it falls flat in the face of reality. The existence of israel actually makes it less safe for Jews around the world because the horrific actions of israel are incorrectly conflated as being the will of all Jews. Additionally, it's a terrible idea to concentrate as many Jews as possible into a single small country. That only makes them more vulnerable. With how many enemies the israelis are making through their actions, the second they don't have the backing of the most powerful military in the world, they're open to attack. They're relying on always being defended no matter what they do and they use it as a license to carry out the most horrific acts, including genocide. It's not sustainable and it should not be excused or tolerated.
