Bruh, the post-war betrayal of the Pan-Arab rebels is a major theme running through local resentment in the period.

For example Lebanon was created as a state separate from Syria to provide a safe space for Maronite Christians. The Maronites wanted Lebanon to have more territory including the Bekaa valley inhabited by Shia Muslims because it had good farmland for food security. Syria was not happy about this and has been trying to control, occupy, and annex Lebanon ever since.

The idea that Syria has been trying to 'control, occupy, and annex' Lebanon over a Shia majority area in contrast with the interests of Maronite Christians is... not in-line with reality.
