Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes

This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".

Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.

Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:

[BB] This enemy is so difficult!

or

[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Apart from the ending, did you like the game overall? How does it fare compared to the other soulslikes you've played? I've heard mixed reviews

The first one was pretty bad gameplay wise. It was pretty slow but also had a mechanic where the souls (vigor...) you dropped on death would vanish over time.

The second one (2023 edition) is way better gameplay wise. Feels pretty Darksouls 3 combat wise, at least for a strength/tank, pure bonk no shield, build.

It also has a pretty cool lore! I think they had to rush the ending for some reason. The last region feels very much like there was a cool concept and even more cool lore to be had. But the last boss feels gimicky almost to the level of bed of chaos.

But I did like the umbral mechanics with the lamp and fully entering umbral gives you access to more exploration through riddles. They do get a bit repetitive at the end but it is a cool touch in my opinion.
