If they go into reason, they'll have to explain who the shooter was, that they were (probably) super right wing.
Can't do that, disrupts the narrative.
And this way is much more convenient: every group can assume that the shooter was (insert who that group blames for everything) and the reason was (hate of the "good" group). All groups are content. Splendid!
