Pete Hegseth‘s Defense Department has threatened to revoke press credentials of news organization that do not agree to restrictive new coverage rules — and says it may bar journalists who don’t agree to abide by the rules from physical access to the Pentagon’s grounds. But more than three dozen news orgs have said they are refusing to sign on to the requirements.

On Tuesday, in a joint statement five major TV news outlets — ABC News, CBS News, CNN, Fox News and NBC News — said they were not agreeing to the new rules. The Pentagon has told reporters they must sign an agreement for the new rules by Tuesday or turn in their press passes by Wednesday.

According to the Defense Department’s press office, which outlined the new rules last month, reporters covering the Pentagon must sign a pledge not to obtain or use unauthorized material (even if the information is unclassified). If they do not, they will potentially be barred from the Pentagon.

“Today, we join virtually every other news organization in declining to agree to the Pentagon’s new requirements, which would restrict journalists’ ability to keep the nation and the world informed of important national security issues,” the networks said in the statement. “The policy is without precedent and threatens core journalistic protections. We will continue to cover the U.S. military as each of our organizations has done for many decades, upholding the principles of a free and independent press.”

The five networks join a number of other news orgs that have already said they won’t agree to the new rules being imposed by Hegseth, a former Fox News host. Those include the New York Times, AP, Reuters, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Politico, NewsNation and the Hill, along with conservative-leaning outlets like Newsmax and the Washington Examiner.

At press time, only one outlet has said it plans to sign on to the new rules announced by the Pentagon, which the Trump administration now calls the “U.S. Department of War”: pro-Trump network One America News Network (OANN).

Well, unless we're going fully into sci fi dystopian 'we are pretending the President is still actually alive and not a fucking fetid vegetable in an undisclosed location'...

No fucking way imo he makes it 20 more years, I'd be genuinely surprised if he made it to 2029.

I would also say the chance of an actual military coup/counter-coup is non zero.

Sure, JD or some other admin killerclown type person may end up in charge of a similar admin, but Trump is having seemingly regular strokes, more and more Republicans are turning on him as his angry pudding brain commands more and more insane gaffs, memory lapses, and absurd decisions, it might actually be possible to remove him with the 25th.

That all being said, none of that is guaranteed at all, and yes, Trump is clearly planning to be GodEmperor for life, problem is, he is not a perpetual.

Doesn’t matter if he makes it 2 more years. What he’s doing is laying the groundwork for the next dictator to reap what he’s sown.

This is true and should absolutely not be discounted, but also, MAGA is literally a cult, and imo, is basically guaranteed to implode/collapse when Trump is finally recalled from being alive.

These goobers will Night of the Long Knives each other, which could potentially cause so much chaos thay potentially, if the Dems ever get their shit together, they could maybe kind of actually do something useful.

Who the hell knows, maybe at that point Elon goes back to his idea of making his own party, and ... I tried to do the math based on polling on that back when he floated that idea, and you actually end up with a three party system, Dems edge out Elon party by a bit, Republicans are sizeable but smallest, Dems are libs to leftists, Elon is basically the corpo/libertarian party, Reps are basically racists and religious theocrats, Elon and Reps fight over varying subtypes of fascists.

Assuming Elon doesn't end up prosecuted for his many DOGE crimes, among others... he is basically the one person who has enough money to be maybe be able to brute force starting a maybe viable third party.

I don't know if GodEmperor, but President-for-life... maybe. Given his "amazing" health.
