The far-right congresswoman has increasingly broken ranks with the MAGA movement, leading even Donald Trump to wonder ‘What's going on with Marjorie?’

Marjorie Taylor Greene has hit out at her fellow Republicans for "doing nothing" about rising food and healthcare costs in her latest breach with the Trump administration.

In an interview with the conservative broadcaster Real America's Voice on Tuesday, the Georgia congresswoman warned that letting Joe Biden's Affordable Care Act subsidies expire at the end of the year would "crush" Americans' finances.

Those subsidies are now at the heart of a government shutdown that's lasted 15 days and counting. Senate Democrats are demanding the subsidies be extended as a condition of reopening the government while Republicans are refusing to budge.

This is like the third time I've agreed with her in the last month or two wtf is going on

This is the really loud rat that slept in the wall right next to your head and pissed you off every night!

Now the ship is on fire. That loud, annoying rat is loudly abandoning ship. She may act dumb, but she's making some smart decisions (for her own preservation) right now.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 31 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I think her being the "smart" one should tell us something about the rest of the Republicans. She's not the smart one. The rest of them are confident in the fascists ability to hold power through state violence. She appears smart because she's reacting to the unfavorable view most people have of the administration (while remaining loyal to Trump and never calling him out by name).

She's not being fed talking points now; so she actually is just defaulting to a somewhat reasonable position from shit she sees as popular.

She's not a part of the main leadership and she has only ever made a name for herself by being "more radical". Well, the Democrats are limp dicks and the Republicans are rounding up people and putting them in labor camps. The only move she has is to literally just say reasonable shit to remain relevant.

[–] grissino@lemmy.world 16 points 3 days ago

That describes a person smarter than I ever gave her credit for being.

The Overton window has shifted so far right that MTG seems like a bleeding heart liberal in comparison to the rest of the Republican Party.

[–] BassTurd@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago (2 children)

If you only take into context the things that we agree on over the past month or so, her opinions on those topics are bleeding heart liberal. I wouldn't say the Overton window has shifted so much as I would say she's presenting a persona to save her bacon and trying to not get voted out next election.

She's betting on collapse

[–] delgato@sh.itjust.works 19 points 3 days ago (1 children)

She recently was on Tim Dillon podcast and my impression of the situation: She’s a duplicitous lip-server. Shes delusional enough to rationalize the impending healthcare disaster the dems point to as actually “lapses in Obamacare”, not at all because the BBB bill just passed by her party. Also, she is just protesting with dems where convenient because she is capitalizing on some popularity internal to MAGA. It’s easy to hold her party leaders to account and follow through on promises if that means getting some leverage later on.

That and I bet she’s gonna run for president later. She’s banking on maga failing and wants a long history of “rational thinking”

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Blonde haired white ultra-consertvative woman that the right will be able to claim "FIRST FEMALE PRESIDENT! And all you dissenters are sexist!"

[–] klammeraffe@lemmy.cafe 8 points 3 days ago (2 children)

If she’s a real blonde, then I’m the queen of england.

If you're referring to Elizabeth II, she wasn't the queen of England, she was queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (along with being the monarch of several other independent kingdoms.) The "Queen of England" title hasn't been used to refer to the well-known British monarch since the early 18th century, which means that the GP poster must descend from a secret royal line that's been operating in the shadows, waiting for the correct moment to reveal themselves to the world.

i prefer to use "queen of france" because the last queen and monarchy died centuries ago but yours works too

My guess? She’s somehow financially compromised. A congressperson doesn’t feel the urgency of high costs of living unless it affects them somehow; and if she’s worried about the prices of everyday staple items, she’s losing money.

[–] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 9 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

I remember some of her family members are financially struggling. Might be a reason why. However, the main reason is that she never got a cabinet position or any position in Trump’s admin.

[–] Soup@lemmy.world 12 points 3 days ago

She reminds of the people who are so astronomically stupid they actually believe that conservative politics will help the average person. Her entire ideology is falling apart in front of her eyes and, too her very likited credit, she’s standing up for the people she represents.

If only she wasn’t a massive piece of garbage in countless other ways and so utterly stupid I’m amazed her last braincell can even fire in semi regular intervals with burning up like a 20 year old CPU being asked to run some unoptimized AAA junk at 4k.

[–] RagingRobot@lemmy.world 0 points 3 days ago

You're probably just becoming more like her surely she would never change lol
