THE POLICE PROBLEM

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

It you've been banned but don't know why, check the moderator's log. If you feel you didn't deserve it, hey, I'm new at this and maybe you're right. Send a cordial PM, for a second chance.

The people ordering and executing this are objectively bad people. Like the European fascists that came before them. They're irredeemable and their day will come.

Hitler specifically was openly inspired by americas genocide against the indigenous peoples and jim crow laws/segregation. This has always been what america is. The internet has made it harder to hide it

America was founded on the principles that all people are created equal, and we have the God-given human rights to Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.

Our nation seemed to abandon those principles almost from the start, but they are still worthy principles upon which to base a nation, and IF the Forces of Good manage to wrest power away from the MAGA Evil, we need to reconfigure our nation to truly honor the promise of those Founding Principles.

All [white, landowning, men] are created equal. They didnt consider the other types of people to be people back then...

Stop with this messaging. Many Americans fought those bullshit anti native and anti black/brown laws and thinking and this is the death throws of an ignorant but very vocal minority. They would have disappeared under the rug if not for VERY wealthy and manipulative people making them feel like their terrible views were justified instead of socially bankrupt. All to enrich and empower those evil wealthy people. They don't care about race, just distracting idiots from wealth inequality. America has done a lot of good in the world. We just got a wake up call that the fight against racism and hate and bigotry of our past will flare up if we are not diligent.

I got my future in laws to stop saying the N word which was rampant in their language and while they never said it around me ever again I also know that percolated with shame into other conversations. America is full of loving and welcoming people. We've just got gobs of money and constant messaging trying to convince us to go back to the 50s. We weren't ALWAYS like this and we WILL defeat this and progress. The constant negativity is strangling. Please change your mindset. The average american is not the average Trump Nazi cultist..

Rare positive and hopeful message in 2025? Thank you bro please don’t stop man if we all talked like this man would we even be in this situation? Instead we just mog our opps online.. it has created such a divide.

The Founding Fathers set up a durable and highly respected system of governance, and are widely celebrated for that. They were also slave owners, and are widely condemned for that. People are complicated, and accepting that the same person leaves both positive and negative legacies is important to understanding them.

Denying and suppressing the bad parts of our history is unhelpful. Accepting the bad parts and trying to learn from them gives us the best shot at doing better in the future. We can both celebrate the good legacies of our country and at the same time acknowledge the bad ones.

I agree we need to understand it all. And i certainly touched on this. OP, however was only denigrating and not educating. It was 100% negative. I'm guessing you'd agree that's not helpful either. Thanks

The governemnt literally paid $200 (not adjusted for inflation) for dead indegnous people... But whatever you have to tell yourself

[–] Formfiller@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

That and the eugenics movement. His Aktion T4 plan was inspired by the American eugenics movement. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aktion_T4

65-75 million people died before the Nuremberg trials happened

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 5 points 1 day ago

About 210ish Nazis at Nuremberg were executed.

...it is why I advocate for trialing ICE as a class and executing anyone who was paid for working as ICE, because too many innocents are being slaughtered without their killers being removed from the census.

I don't want MAGAs as my neighbors in the America of the future, because they want to hurt people...for...existing? At this point, I simply don't consider MAGATs to be fellow Americans.
