Well... Gimli remained unmarried and never had children. Legolas remained unmarried and never had children. After the destruction of the ring they travelled the world together and were the closest of friends...

This is Tolkiens equivalent of your aunt living with her best "friend" and never having kids...

... Nah, mate. Nah. They were just friends. Very religious. It was like a convent of two. Though now that I think back on it, one of them was... kinda butch.......
