If he drives it into the ground he can reduce the time/amount of money he’s losing and still go “see? I was handed a ticking time bomb. Nothing could be done. We tried everything.” His cheerleaders who still think he’s Tony Stark will lap it up and call for his presidential run.
thankfully, he's foreign-born so that last bit can't actually happen (without tossing parts of the constitution out the window, anyway).
