Excuse me, but is there another news source that talks about the same topic but doesn't require a subscription or have a paywall?
Seems to not be a pay wall, just a pop up.
Well, it's not letting me read the article unless I pay for a subscription.

Try this: https://12ft.io/ Or any other website for removing paywalls. Alternatively you can try to block the popup yourself using ublock origin.
It seems to be a soft paywall because I only get the pop up if I disable AdGuard. You should install an ad blocker.
I actually had an ad blocker installed: Adguard. Still got the pop-up. 🫤
No worries. Thanks to some separate links provided by other responses, I got to read the article.
Might be a filter that’s not on by default. I’m not sure what the default ones are but I have AdGuard base filter, AdGuard mobile ads filter, AdGuard tracking protection filter, AdGuard annoyances filter, AdGuard popups filter. It’s probably the popups one that does it which is under the annoyances category.
