This is only slightly less dumb than the people that think solar panels take sunlight away from plants.

[-] Pasta4u@lemmy.world 66 points 1 year ago

I mean if the plant is under the solar panel they sure will block the sun.

Which is a great thing in places where the sun would otherwise scorch the earth not letting anything grow.

There are combined projects of "solar panels + grass + sheep". The grass helps retain water, lowering the temperature under the panel, which increases panel efficiency, and the sheep keep the grass from growing too tall, while feeding themselves.

It also seems like planting this way saves water, since less evaporates. And the farmers have an additional source of income so they are less dependent on the market. There is a good article at the BBC about a farmer being able to grow older, nicer but less desired lemons because of agri pv

Hilariously you have to be careful what animals you mix with agrivoltaics. Goats chew the cabling and try to climb onto the solar panels and cattle run up against the structures holding the panels to scratch itches

Yeah.... goats will eat anything... and I mean ANYTHING.

Kinda like the chicken/turkey + some sort of profitable tree. I don't really remember actually but the birds keep things weeded, fertilized, and debugged in a non computery sense.
