I've seen a lot of posts about how to watch new and old movies and shows for free. This is for you, guys!

Stremio and Cloudstream offer cord-cutters a way to stream movies, TV shows, and web series for free, they do so by aggregating pirated content, making them alternatives to mainstream paid streaming services.

You can get all your entertainment in one place, like Netflix.

Stremio with real debrid is awesome

Do I need to pay for real debrid? I’m using torrentio and it’s sufficient. How’s realdebrid different?

[-] portly053@lemmy.fmhy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Yes it costs money but not much. You get better speeds and don't need a vpn for debrid serivces

Yes, it is paid. I recently signed up for the 30 day play as a test drive and see if it made sense to me... And it really is game changing.

Torrent may be enough most of the time, but Stremio has a serious problem about speed, I don't know why. I enabled the "ultra fast" settings in the menu, but I can't get the same speed I'd get downloading the same torrent through any torrent client.

It made it impossible to watch 4gb movies, for example, I was basically stuck with lower quality 1-2gb ones.

Real debrid changed that. I watched a 17gb one the other day just fine.

If some movie isn't available through RD, you can signal RD to download it and it will be available to you (and others) a bit later as well, but I haven't really needed it so far.

You do pay for it but at €13 for 6 months it is totally worth it. Good and reliable solid streams to give you the most applike experience.

That sounds reasonable. How does it compare to having your own homeserver? I already have a small home server. Does it allow you to download movies to add to your own collection?

I switched to it from hosting my own server. In my experience, Stream quality/lag is way better with Debrid services.

It's also much faster to go from "I want to watch this show" to actually watching the show with Debrid than it was with my Plex/Jellyfin server, even with all the *rrs setup.

Debrid is scummy, it hit and runs torrents without seeding. It makes torrenting worse for everybody. Only 1 debrid service I know of seeds, and it only does it for 72 hours.

This is yet another reason why public trackers are getting worse and worse.

Torrenting only works if people seed after downloading. Please consider getting a VPN with port forwarding (I use proton), and seed your torrents. (Depending on your country you probably don't even need a VPN, but it's wise to use one anyway).

If you want to direct download, consider a seedbox instead. There are probably good options for streaming directly from your seedbox too, but I haven't investigated.

It's 100% possible, plex and jellyfin are available on swizzin. Most aren't good enough to do transcoding, though, so keep that in mind if you don't have a good internet.

That's what I use, but this post is about free alternatives.

Anyone had experience buying Real debrid subscription via 24instant.com?

[-] lortikins@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

I wouldn't do a third party at all, just go to the official website and pay for it there!

[-] jeanofthedead@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

100%. Or Syncler, if you prefer. I love both apps.

[-] sylverstream@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 year ago

Would that work on kodi/osmc? I only have a Vero 4k and a dumb chromecast, so can't install Android apps.

[-] Yaks@lemmy.fmhy.ml 2 points 1 year ago

If you use Kodi. The best add on to use with real debrid is Seren in my opinion.

[-] sylverstream@lemmy.nz 1 points 1 year ago

Thanks that looks cool!

I have got it working now with Stremio and Yatse. In Stremio I select External Player, then Play on Media from Yatse and it shows on the Kodi.
