MODERATORS
Edgelords here making me question my lemmy account. I really hope lemmy crawls out of this phase and becomes a place that normies can feel at home.
This is “memes.” Are you expecting Dostoevsky?
Look at this little bitch over here, correctly spelling the surname of 19th century Russian novelist Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoevsky.
What a NERD.

THE SHAME
Oohh laa laa Someone’s gonna get laid in college
Actually you make a great point. Memes should be treated FAR less seriously than, say, a news magazine. Let's remember which magazine we're in, folks
Dicks out for Harambe, and all that
FWIW I get what you mean - we want some decent effort/OC here. I just had to be a bit tongue in cheek about it lol
I don't want to sound like a "my way or the highway" guy, but the whole point of the Fediverse is that different instances have different rulesets and, by consequence, different users behaviors. There's nothing wrong in looking for a place that suits your needs.
For example, places like beehaw.org have stricter moderation rules and mild interactions, with less to no shitposting at all, so if that's what you're into might be good for you to take a look.
I get it, but the fediverse is confusing. It’s actually difficult to only see local content, or to know what instance to be on for what content. I think there needs to be some quality of life features to make it clear on how to navigate, and filter etc.
Uhhhh... Just use "local" tab?
Yeah.. but it took me a while to figure out what that was, and it’s not default. I have to do it every single time.
You can change it in the settings
I’ll have to check that out.
Yeah, it might be confusing at first, like everything when it's at their beginning and this secondary aspect will be fixed over time.
In the meanwhile the "quality of life feature" it's still asking around about any subject in their respective communities: go and make friends <3
I kind of agree with the sentiment from the other answers. In the last weeks I’ve seen quite a few comments made by users, threatening to leave the platform because of one thing or the other. I want to be clear that I think everyone should be welcome here, and should feel there is a place for them as well. However, I am under the impression that most of these people commenting this are not really generating content themselves.
I think it’s important to realize that lemmy is in a growing stage, with growing pains. The content is as good as we, the community, make it. If you feel disenfranchised, it is certainly your right to respectfully complain, but I think it would be even more valuable to create a community that reflects your needs, and to create content that will please you and people with interests aligned with yours.
I would generate content, but I’m not good at memes! I like to comment more than post. Was on Reddit for 15 years and probably had less than a hundred posts.
I modded a gaming discussion subreddit for about 2 years and I literally never made a post, only comments lol
I blocked the meme subs, which massively improves the experience.
You're on a meme sub though?
You know, the other ones. This is the good one of course /s
Sometimes I enjoy getting my balls kicked.
Don't let the door hit you
Go back to Reddit.
Ew reddit avatar
"snoovatar" gag
I agree.
If someone is looking for the canned this-is-what-the-headline-said-so-it-is-the-truth-and-anything-that-challenges-that-is-edgy then go to one of the other multitude of social media sites that have been decimated by that exact mentality.
For me, Lemmy is a place where ideas can be discussed, and not automatically downvoted into oblivion because it may challenge the conventional wisdom, and that's what Reddit used to be too.
Edit: Just to be clear, this is to say nothing about the Justin Roiland debacle, just the sentiment of Lemmy.
