Lol, my husband's at-the-time 4 year old niece used to watch me knit, and asked me to teach her. So sure, I look up some tips, buy some nice chunky yarn in her fave colour, some equally chunky kid-friendly needles and stoppers, and I'm feeling fully prepared.
About five minutes into our first lesson, it's going surprisingly well. Her older cousin comes wandering up and starts asking questions. Why are you knitting? It looks too hard. It's what grandmas do. Why not just buy things in the shop instead?
Yeah, four year old quickly lost interest after that. All my prep for about five minutes of actual knitting. I feel you :D
