It’s just such a terrible name.. I’m tired of all the team names just being a string of corporations

[–] Microw@lemm.ee 10 points 2 years ago

I mean, it has been this way since the 1980s.. but nowadays it's often "Company 1 Company 2 Company 3" instead of "Sponsor Team". And stupid sponsorship names that are very long dont help either

Oh boy, don't start watching any cycling

[–] 5null5@lemmy.ml 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

But the brand names is cycling is super cool imo.Id love to see a F1 team named as Jumbo Visma

[–] EddoWagt@feddit.nl 3 points 2 years ago

Not sure if you're aware, but Jumbo is literally a grocery store in the Netherlands

Yeah like Ferrari or Mercedes or Red Bull or McLaren or...

[–] dustyData@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago

Well, at least three of those are actually car manufacturing companies that used their competition teams to both promote their vehicles and showcase new R&D achievements. Even RedBull has a reputation and history of marketing towards high intensity thrill seeking and adrenaline junkies, which makes sense in a high risk high stakes sport. There's a qualitative difference between Ferrari and VisaCashappWalmart or whatever it is they're doing now.

The worst part is Raging Bull, though.

[–] JJROKCZ@lemmy.world 3 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It’s going to be racing bulls tho right?

[–] bedrooms@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

Oh, was it? I must've been mistaken.
