I suspect he will come to regret this, the Chinese aren't stupid, and will be happy to slit his throat once they've got what they need.
China already got what they need from Tesla. China is the number 1 car market. Number 1 in EVs. Number 1 in batteries.
BYD and Tesla are the top selling EVs to the world.
GM discontinued their best selling EV.
I suspect Tesla will work with BYD and CATL to make low priced entry level EVs. They will do this in Mexico. Not USA.
Meanwhile Borgwarner just signed with BYD.
Yes, but knowing China, they'll be happy to supply Tesla, while selling knock-off parts and quality control failures under their own brand to anyone who wants them, at least until they get their own operation up and running to make their own cars, a process a lot easier when you're in the country, something Tesla will be facilitating.
China will be facilitating Tesla. It will be similar to the last go around. Other countries China builds their own factories. People forget Tesla's mission statement.
