I thought he was like one of the most important whistleblowers of our time exposing war crimes and shit. Some of you don't wanna see him live another day, why is that?

They are state-funded AND state-controlled. They exist as the pleasure of Putin and would disappear at the displeasure of Putin. The independent Russian media organizations were shut down, driven out, and sometimes outright killed. Literally no one credible thinks that RT has any meaningful independence.

No one is accusing the people of Russia of being evil. Get out of here with that dishonest shit. But the government is a kleptocracy that murders journalists and political dissidents as casually as they collect taxes. Putin is a dictator. Democracy no longer exists there.
