AirPods are one of those things that should only be purchased from a known retailer or person. eBay, FB Marketplace, etc is loaded with stolen and counterfeit AirPods. Don’t buy from a rando.

Half of the posts in Reddit’s AirPods subreddit are people learning that they got burned.

This seems to be the opposite. Looks like the air pods are legit but the money was counterfeit
