Never hold the samples! Deposit them on the exfil pad so whoever is left alive can pick them up when the plane lands.

Oh, someone left samples over there. I'll just trek across the map, pick them up, and carry them back to the objective on the other side. For safe keeping.

I 100% agree. Doesn't apply to this situation, but it's almost always the best thing to do.
