Seriously though, Trump is conning his supporters but there can be a case made that doing so in such bad faith could lead to a lawsuit. Everyone who donated to his campaign can join a class action lawsuit to get their money back.

Yeah, good luck suing the bankrupt campaign.

[-] LegendofDragoon@kbin.social 22 points 1 year ago

Good luck getting the marks to do anything that might hurt Trump Daddy

They can liquidate his assets.

[-] SheeEttin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I doubt the campaign actually has any assets. They're probably all leased from Not The Trump Campaign, LLC, which will probably long since have gone out of business by the time there's any judgement.

I don't think that most of them would believe he lied to them if he told them to their faces. They'd come up with some brain bender about how he'd been blackmailed by the Deep State and was only saying ti to say some child in Iowa...

[-] cassetti@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Correct, because admitting that he's lied to them would rupture the very foundation of their beliefs. If he lied about that, what else has he lied about?

Instead they believe it's all a conspiracy. And that gives them power because it makes them feel "privileged" to know the "truth" as they want to believe it.

[-] foggy@lemmy.world 8 points 1 year ago

not if each of them would do it again!

As they have... repeatedly and ad nauseam.

Edit: I remember, a few years ago, there was an infomercial for like a coin collection made featuring him and I think even a chess set. Everybody is capitalizing on that cult of personality.

Ever heard of "Trump Bucks"? People are literally paying real money with the belief that these are legal tender or will be in the near future. Retail workers have to deal with people trying to buy stuff with these fake bucks all the time and then argue with the employee when told it's not real money

[-] sin_free_for_00_days@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 year ago

I had not heard that, and it's freaking hilarious!

[-] cassetti@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

The more time that passes, the more I believe that the 2006 movie Idiocracy is absolutely a prophecy about the near future of our country.

[-] seSvxR3ull7LHaEZFIjM@feddit.de 4 points 1 year ago

I doubt any of them would sue him if they still donate to him at this point.
