It was the old image of Chinese products (edit: also services), but recently their quality has increased significantly. On top of that, the price is much lower than alternatives.

It's mostly the surveillance state

⚠️ You have alerted the horde

[–] NorthWestWind@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

When people saw the price, they stopped caring about that. This has been the case of Hong Kong.

[–] Zirconium@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

price makes no fucking difference whether or not it comes from a sweatshop. especially fucking clothes

[–] NorthWestWind@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Sweatshop is probably true, but I'm telling you, you just cannot resist the price as a consumer. Tooth filling for 29 HKD (3.7 USD), you just can't beat that.

Hongkonger are extremely realistic and practical. Price low? Use it

I thought it was about the dogs painted to look like tigers in the zoo, for example.

do you have concerns about buying American stuff? I mean the usa just got outed running an antivax campaign to kill Asian people while hoarding vaccines.

States aren't your friend yo

Yes. I hate consumerism and our corporate overlords. I hate any World Super Power(tm), real or imaginary.

It's a team sport, but we're all the disposable pawns.

So you support the ccp and their oppression of the Chinese population?

[–] NorthWestWind@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Chinese are humans too. They have a life, have things to pay for, and most of them are not even associated with the government.

[–] VelvetStorm@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Then don't buy things that are owned by the ccp. I'm not against them. I'm against their government, and unfortunately, we can't do anything about the ccp except not buy as much as possible from China.

[–] OrnateLuna@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Tell that to all the major Industries that are buying and producing stuff in china than just a regular bloke

[–] VelvetStorm@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Just because they are shitty doesn't mean I have to be too.

[–] Honytawk@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

Yes, the Chinese are people too, and they are being oppressed by their government.

What's your point?
