Still around. But it seems parents don't count to teens, just provide food, sign docs, until switch off the wifi ... We did go on a cycling trip recently - this worked - have to be active and look at distance rather than screens.

Kind of like parenting toddlers: Provide food, sign docs, sling snacks, troubleshoot screens. Except yours can read.

I have ~6 months till birth of our firstborn, so not much to contribute right now.

Wishing y’all the best! The most worrying and exciting time. Even 11 years and 4 boys later, I still cannot describe with words the feeling of their first breath, cry, and holding them.

Pretty big contrast to now, when they run off yelling at you for taking away screen time; all because they couldn’t control their emotions and/or choice of words.

Thank you, right now I am not even thinking about afterwards as I have to finish my PhD. beforehand so that I can spend most of me free time with my child. And until then I have to care for our horse it seems. My wife isn't allowed to ride anymore And in the last two months I will probably be there every day to muck out the box, feed him and do some ground work with him. After all, we now have a riding partner (is that the right word for someone who pays us money so she can use the horse some days?) so I only have to come 5 days a week. So it's all very stressful at the moment, but I'm really looking forward to it :)

I think a weekly discussion post is a fine idea.

My news: Kids are away at camp, time to celebrate!

Hope they have fun. I thought about it but now that I'm a parent it gives me a lot of anxiety to have my kids away so long. Also both my kids have special needs so that's a factor.

It's a YMCA camp they've gone to before. It helped that we did family camping at the same site the previous year so everyone knew what to expect.

Lemmy parents seem to be a more put-together, less drama-seeking set than those from that other /Parenting space. At least on the instances yours or mine are federated with. 🤷

Thar might be it!

Yep, I'm here. My nine-year-old is writing a wizard spellbook while the seven-, four-, and two-year-old play outside. Let's do a weekly discussion post, sounds fun.

I'm still a parent and I'm a lurker. Weekly discussions sound okay.

My news: We have entered toddler territory.

Good to see you around!

I would love a general/weekly discussion post! Currently 8 months pregnant with my first, so I’ll take any chance to connect with other parents once she is here.

[–] TORFdot0@lemmy.world 3 points 11 months ago

I’m here. The weekly posts are probably a good idea to signal to people who haven’t yet subscribed that we are here but I just haven’t had anything to really contribute. When someone has a post I feel like I can contribute too I usually do.

I'm here. Have been wondering about a place to post the stuff my youngest has been saying lately, they are at the perfect age.

Questions like "Dad, how do giraffes draw pictures?"

And statements like "I'm going to get married. To myself. Because I want to".

When my eldest was about that age I got "Dad, why do we only have one sun?" and so I had to explain orbital dynamics to a preschooler.

I'm around. Parent of an almost 1 year old. I don't monitor the space religiously, but I'll participate in a conversation if I can.

What sort of discussion topics are you interested in?

[–] Servais@dormi.zone 4 points 11 months ago

The type you would usually see on other parenting forum: advice requests, experience sharing, tips, small victories, etc.
