His gruff no nonsense reviews appeal to me, and I've never been disappointed by anything stamped with drinker recommends

That's the entire reason I watched the menu and it was amazing
My impression is that he mostly makes money off calling things woke (spreading The Message/forced diversity/Mary Sue/cancel culture/etc.). The Menu is great though.
Yeah I'd just put that down to no nonsense reviews.
If a media property spends more energy on politics then the story/writing itself that's a reasonable bit of critical feedback.
He celebrates empowerment when it's motivated properly in the story, like his love note to Arcane. https://youtu.be/W3h6Pszege4&t=481
I usually agree with the critical drinker, here I'm going to respectfully disagree. I think the analysis of the film is absolutely correct. The analysis of the source material is correct. But the takeaway of people being unexpectedly enthusiastic for the film I think is incorrect.
Everything exists in a context, and the context which this film released in is one of demand and hunger, there hasn't been an equivalent well put together film for quite a while. And even if this film copies much of its structure from past films in the series, it's still relatively fresh amongst the current movie options. I think people are excited because it's the best available, even if it isn't innovative. And I can't fault people for that.
People like watching Shakespeare productions, even though it's been done before, and I think the same can be said for alien. A good retelling, even if it's not masterful, can be very rewarding
