These defeats have begun to raise questions about the future of Russian military forces in the region following the eviction of French and US forces, replaced by Russian mercenaries whose massacres fuel rebel anger and desire for revenge.

one would think Russia is stretched too thin to work in Africa as well?

Yeah, Russia’s spreading itself thin. With their focus on Ukraine, it’s wild they’re still trying to keep control in Africa, especially as the locals seem more hostile toward them now. Plus, their heavy-handed approach is clearly backfiring. You’d think they’d learn after all the civilian deaths just fuel more resentment.
