I admit my exposure to throat singing is limited, but I've never heard anything like the sounds he makes. I pulled up some tutorial videos and my attempts were just as laughable as you'd imagine.

If you are into rock music, check out The Hu! They are a Mongolian metal group that also use some Mongolian traditional instrumentation including throat singing. It's pretty great stuff!
