BBS November Fri 01 Nov 2024

  • Brush: Chisel and Hound – Azurite with 26 mm Maggard Tuxedo knot
  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Open Comb (second generation, Djudge razor)
  • Blade: Personna – GEM PTFE
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann – Fern

BBS November is back and I'm excited to plow through my den after sticking to the Stank® and open blades during TabOKtoberfest. To start off, I'm copying u/Oswald_Heist's SOTFF of last Fougère Friday (minus Fanchurian knot) today for a stanky Fougère Friday. A simple but powerful combo, strong enough to get through my stuffy nose.

The MMOC was like visiting an old friend, and it got me to BBS in three quick and enjoyable passes. I've been neglecting my synths recently, so the ease of lathering was a welcome change.

As a member of the PMOC/OCPM, I fully endorse the use of the MMOC/OCMM.

It's All Saints Day, and the croissant of death is getting flatter.

Have a good day!

A very nice 2nd luxury shave on this first day of BBS November

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 5 points 1 week ago

I was half expecting yet another straight😄

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 week ago

Yeah, me too 😅 If I go into auto-pilot mode, I'll find myself standing at my cabinet of straights to pick one. In another day or two, though, I'll have the pattern of using safety razors mixed with straights.

  • Brush: AP Shave Co Strawberry Cream 26mm G5A

  • Razor: C.V. Heljestrand MK 31 11/16 Söderfors Extra Specialstål Full Hollow

  • Lather: The Cajun Blade - Wild Oud - Soap

  • Toner: Thayers - Lavender - Toner

  • Aftershave: Unilever - Brut - Aftershave

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I told myself that after 3 solid months of straight razor shaving, it was time to visit my safety razor selection. But when the time came to shave this morning, the idea of choosing a razor, choosing a DE blade, unwrapping it, and installing it in the razor seemed like a lot to do. So I went with the MK 31 Söderfors which is a magical razor. It's BBS November, so maybe I can get it together to have a safety razor shave for my second luxury shave today.

Wild Oud is made by The Cajun Blade; a friend with a similar channel to mine on YouTube. He is a jack of all trades and in addition to his many other pursuits, he makes shaving soap. In particular, he renders his own beef tallow for his soap, and I could tell that he is not shy with the percentage of tallow he uses in his recipe. The lather is dense and creamy and takes water very well. Very easy to dial in for a shaver who is particular about lather hydration. Although the recipe is simple, the proportions produce a soap that, at the moment, I consider top-tier.

The Wild Oud fragrance is not dank in the way some ouds can be. Instead, it is woodsy in the way you smell the scent of fallen trees in a forest. The scent strength is on the mild side of medium.

Sounds like interesting soap. I had a chance to try a "homemade" shave soap once which also only had a few ingredients. I was similarly impressed with it.

[-] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 week ago

Yes, this one might make an interesting BVWSC soap.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 week ago

It's BBS November, so maybe I can get it together to have a safety razor shave for my second luxury shave today.

That's the spirit 😄

Wonderful 2nd luxury shave this evening. Hauled out the gold Black Beauty.

  • Brush: Wolf Whiskers - "Gianmaria" w/26mm Super Plush Synthetic
  • Razor: Blackland Era - Level 3 SB
  • Blade: Personna Lab Blue (3)
  • Lather: Stirling Soap Co. - Ozark Mountain - Soap

Nice shave. We put on a presentation at an elementary school today introducing them to how things fly, model rockets, RC gliders, indoor micro-drones, and an RC flight simulator. The kids loved it and it was a lot of fun.

Woesteling Fri 01 Nov 2024

  • Brush: Chisel and Hound Azurite with 26 mm Maggard Tuxedo knot
  • Razor: GEM Micromatic Open Comb (second generation, Djudge razor)
  • Blade: Personna – GEM PTFE
  • Lather: Boendoebaard – Woesteling
  • Post Shave: Barrister and Mann – Fougère Classique

Fougère Friday second luxury shave with Boendoebaard's Brut dupe in the luxurious sheep base. Sheep tallow soaps just really seem to agree with my skin.

[-] snooting@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 week ago

Man, that slight reflection of the razor on the soap lid. chef's kiss, well done.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Thanks! It's cheating, though. The reflection is actually part of the tub art. I just put the bright razor where the imagined source of light would have been

November 1, 2024

This "BBS November" business is ridiculous, so don't get your hopes up that I'll be some sort of regular participant.

I really wanted to use my Fatip Gentile, but I have no idea where it is. I just have a drawer with razors in it, and it's not in there. I just did some digging and I haven't used it since April 1st.

Edit: I searched my Discord messages and I think I've tracked down where it is... I sent it to someone to try in May.

[-] snooting@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 week ago

Is this the Fatip Testina Gentile razor?

It's nice that it's made out of plated brass. What do you like about this one in particular?

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

That's the one. I'm not an expert, but I think "Testina" might refer to the handle, and "Gentile" is the head.

This model is my favorite of the ones I've tried (including Classic and Classic Slant). This is also my favorite handle of theirs that I've tried (including Piccolo and Lo Storto).

I typically prefer milder razors, but not too mild. The Gentile is close to a Gillette Tech, but it's arguably more efficient than a tech.

[-] snooting@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 week ago

Cool, sounds great. Another to try when I get the opportunity. :)

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 1 points 1 week ago

Are you CONUS? I'm happy to send you mine to try once I get it back from the guy I lent it to.

[-] snooting@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 week ago

I am, that would be awesome. Thank you!

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 week ago

I'm going to use it a few times when I get it back so if you see it in a SOTD feel free to PM me as a reminder.

[-] snooting@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 week ago

Will do, thanks again. ❤️

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 week ago

This "BBS November" business is ridiculous

I don't know but from where I'm sitting this looks suspiciously like a second luxury shave in November

[-] walden@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 week ago

I figured I'd give it a try. I won't be able to keep up for a whole month, though.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 week ago

Not with that attitude 🙂

November 1, 2024 - Part Deux

  • Brush: Zenith - B21 boar
  • Razor: Gillette - Super Speed Black Tip
  • Blade: Gillette - 7 O'clock SharpEdge (5)
  • Lather: Stirling - Vanilla Sandalwood
  • Post: Old Spice AS splash
  • Post: Ginger's Garden - Unscented AS Balm + Menthol

I'm flirting with the idea of BBS November. At the very least, a second shave was super relaxing tonight.

Vanilla Sandalwood and a can of Sierra Nevada Celebration was a sublimely relaxing end to the week.

Have a great weekend y'all.

[-] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 week ago
