After 20-25 years, it's more or less used for a spam pit and less important things now. No sense walking away from it when there's no finances or other dangerous things attached

10 yo me on his way to include his day, month and year of birth in his reddit username that cannot be changed and to get enough karma on that account to not want to delete it.

I'm glad I did!

Warez is pronounced like “where’s” right? My friend said it like Juarez, the place in Mexico, and I can’t help but hear it like that in my head.

I find it incredibly annoying that Google won't let you merge or transfer purchases to a new account.

[–] Gestrid@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 years ago

While it's not quite the same, Google does allow you to stay signed into multiple accounts. Just click your profile photo in the upper-right and click "Add another account". After signing into the other account, you can seamlessly switch between them. The same steps can also be used for any Google Android app.

I bet you have a very wholesome password

PW:

u#'o*zaQMyPC"fnw?Cu9OSrxYeEDCe6yXgzQYL4NxP?k%sx+'dBKfdru0CUmD&

If the server won't take a 64-char pw with letters, numbers, and symbols then is it even worth using?

[–] swab148@startrek.website 8 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I'm gonna use your password, but change one character so it's mine.

[–] Rootiest@lemm.ee 5 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Go for it!

I generated it in KeePass for this comment and actually interestingly it looks like Lemmy butchered/sanitized/modified it as well

same email for 20+ years, if i was starting over, i would choose something shorter and easier to spell

[–] Toes@ani.social 12 points 2 years ago

You missed your chance with your account here too

[–] WhatsHerBucket@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago

I made that mistake with my first vanity domain. It sucked having to spell it out every time lol

[–] xusontha@ls.buckodr.ink 19 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Oh god don't remind me, I STILL have stuff tied to that email

[–] potoo22@programming.dev 10 points 2 years ago

Friend got locked out of Instagram account because yahoo deactivated their email. Instagram flagged the email as inactive. After my friend forgot their password, Instagram wouldn't send pw reset emails even after reactivating the account. They also has no direct customer support whatsoever, so that account was lost.

[–] Mago@lemmy.world 16 points 2 years ago

More like 8 yr old lol

[–] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 14 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I got pretty lucky that 1) my usernames have all been pretty tame if a bit boring and 2) I never published anything horrible under my IRL name

[–] alphapuggle@programming.dev 25 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I publish all of my horrible stuff online under your real name just to fuck with you

Bank: and your email is "TigOlBiddies69 @ email com?"

Me: "Yes is there a problem?"

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

When I was in college I got an early invite to Gmail, and did the fistname.lastname address.

All my day jobs have also had the same format, as does my university faculty ID (I teach night classes).

It's kinda handy that you just use my (unique) name and the organization to get in touch with me.

Though it's super annoying on my phone's autocomplete since the screen above the keyboard shows "firstname.lastname@...." 3 times and I don't know which is which.

I still keep my Hotmail/Yahoo/etc., but I've gotten my name as a domain and use that for professional communication.

It has catch-all support, so whether you send an email to hi@name.com or "XxX_360noscopegamer_xXx@name.com", I still receive it.

[–] funkless_eck@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 years ago

I do the same. And if someone abuses a particular alias I block it.

Thank goodness Gmail came out so I could get away from my Yahoo email.

you will be thanking protonmail, tutanota or posteo.de

[–] ChewTiger@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

When I was like 11 I made two emails, one with a dumb name and another more professional one that's just my name. I didn't want to send emails to adults with the dumb name one because I didn't want to explain it.

11 year old me was way too serious.

[–] FordBeeblebrox@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My first Hotmail address was based off my football position and jersey number. During high school I changed positions and numbers along the way, making it obsolete.

Still useful for signing up to things I know are gonna spam me with bullshit though, the ad copy can join old MySpace reminders.

[–] Tankton@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

Ah, mister SafetySafety88 ?

[–] Traegs@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago (1 children)

My first was dingdong86@aol and then dudeguy2202@yahoo

Today I use something more professional, last name + my first and middle initials.

[–] pascal@lemm.ee 6 points 2 years ago

[–] Squid 5 points 2 years ago
