Summary

Senate Democrats are working to confirm up to 30 of President Biden’s federal judicial nominees before the new Republican-led Congress is seated on January 3.

With Biden’s 214 judicial appointments so far, he could surpass the number Trump achieved in his first term if pending nominees are confirmed.

This rush is driven by Democrats’ desire to solidify Biden’s legacy of liberal appointees, especially as Trump prepares to assume office with a Republican Senate. The tight schedule will depend on high Democratic attendance and the support of moderate Republicans.

Trump, meanwhile, has called for Democrats to halt approvals, sparking accusations of hypocrisy.

No shit eh.

Otherwise, expect people like dr Phil and kid Rock to be appointed judges instead. He already plans to put a kiddie fucker as DA

Don't forget, he's getting criminally prosecuted at a state level so he needs to take control of those courts too

The Guardian can STFU on calling Susan Collins a moderate Republican.

There aren't any moderate republicans, and even if they are judging by some outdated standard, she's still not a moderate. She's a hypocritical, Trump enabling, manipulative ghoul.

Fuck Biden for not packing the SC over the last 4 fucking years what the fuck. We lost RBG, and they get boof-master fratboy.

consequences for trump

statehood for DC and PR

new supreme court justices

I’ve not seen this level of failure to deliver since the amazon guy threw my package over the wrong fence and into a neighbour’s pool two blocks away.

In their defense, they did try to get RBG to resign at the end of Obama's term, but she refused, thinking Hillary would win.

She was wrong. Dead wrong. Unfortunately.

[-] Mnemnosyne@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 day ago

At the end of Obama's term wouldn't have made any difference because by then McConnell was committed to holding the seat open for the next Republican.

But people called for her to resign back during the middle of Obama's presidency, when the Democrats controlled the Senate, and he hubristic old ass decided to fuck everyone else by hanging onto power and prestige and trying to be even more historically important.

Woman had a bigger ego than Trump and Musk, and I really hope that historical opinion of he fucking remembers that.

Fuck the DNC for propping up a dynasty (Clintons) to follow another (Bushs) instead of bringing an actual leftist to fight the all right. Fuck Hillary Clinton for embodying it.

Circling the drain.

Fuck Trump trying to pull the Turtle on us again, like they did with the Supreme Court. These federal judges are life time appointments, and we are going to need as many qualified ones as we can get to help weather the coming lawlessness from Trump and his oligarchs.

[-] SassyRamen@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

America is over my man, jump ship, or sink with it.

[-] BlitzoTheOisSilent@lemmy.world 29 points 1 day ago

Unfortunately, we don't all have the choice to jump ship. 🤷‍♀️

Giving the country over to fascists isn't the way. It's one thing if you need to flee for your safety, but handing the country to these assholes is what they want. And the way elections have been going no place is really a paradise right now, so we need to keep the pressure on these assholes, call them out on everything, and hope we get another election in 4 years.

Trump was doing this his entire term, and he'll probably be doing it pretty quickly again.
How is Biden suddenly rushing?

[-] niucllos@lemm.ee 111 points 1 day ago

If you read it Biden's appointed 214 so far, if he gets all 244 then he's appointed more than Trump. Clearly this isn't a sudden rush, it's a final push to fix and protect as much as possible as he's been doing for 4 years

[-] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 33 points 1 day ago

Good points. I do admit I skimmed and commented on emotion.

I appreciate you’re willing to self reflect

For a political thread, this makes me feel nice

[-] TachyonTele@lemm.ee 7 points 1 day ago

Thank you. I'm beyond tired of the political arguments on Lemmy. I'm happy to admit when I know I'm wrong.
