How about stopping, doing some self reflection for a bit and then start running again at an appropriate time? Whoever becomes the front runner is going to be dragged through the mud for the next four years on right wing media. One of the things that worked well for Kamala was that the republican strategy was focused on Biden and they didn’t pivot well…ultimately it didn’t matter, but don’t give them extra time now.

It's cute that the Democrats think they're going to be allowed to run in 2028 or that there will be an election at all

[-] noride@lemm.ee 22 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I don't think that's how it will go down. He's stupid and will just run the same play again, but with more stooges this time.

There will be elections, and Democrats will absolutely be able to run. But if Trump (he's already joked about running again) or his pick do not win, then Vance will not certify the election. Eventually that will land at the Supreme Court, and then it's anyone's guess as to whether or not they follow the constitution or just make up bullshit to support their agenda.

You have far more hope than I do. Republicans are dogs chasing cars, they know what they want, they just don't know what happens after. They want a permanent Christo-fascist government and we just handed them all the power to make it happen. People keep saying "there's rules about this, there's procedures, we have safeguards" as if that impeded him at all in his first term. The only hope I have is that they're too stupid and incompetent to pull it off

Even Putin pretends to have elections.

[-] makeshiftreaper@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

That sentence does not inspire hope

[-] candybrie@lemmy.world 2 points 5 hours ago

It's not really meant to. But there will very likely still be elections that have Democrats in them. It's just a question of how competently they make them a sham.

[-] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

It probably wasn't meant to.

But sham elections are still elections.

[-] pigup@lemmy.world 1 points 8 hours ago

Hot is cold, white is black, up is down.

[-] Stiffneckedppl@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago

No...they aren't. That's the whole point.

[-] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

The argument here seems to be completely eliminate elections like the British monarchy vs sham elections like Putin.

Either way it's bad for America.

[-] ChocolateTeapot@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

And don't forget that they like infighting, I'm hoping they tear each other apart!

[-] Eldritch@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago

If they assume that and pre-capitulate it may as well be. These are the right motions to be making whether or not any of these are even the right people. Whether or not there will be free and fair elections again. The only way there will be is if we fight.

It's gonna be Newsom. And he'll move to the right and lose. And centrists will blame the left and move to the right.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world -3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

No, Newsom has a chance to win, because he doesn't have a vagina. Apparently having one is a disqualifying factor for many voters.

Harris was beating the pants off of Trump when she was seen as a progressive. she lost because she went right.

The trumpists were right though. She went to the right to emulate Clinton, tried to flip Texas and lost. Just like they called out.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago

If I recall correctly, back then Lemmings didn't want to vote for her because she was a cop.

[-] Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 6 points 20 hours ago

No, Newsom has a chance to win, because he doesn’t have a vagina.

Anything to avoid admitting that moving to the right has failed.

[-] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 20 points 1 day ago

Holy hell .. who cares ... the US is just turning into one giant never ending election campaign.

[-] Eatspancakes84@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

I agree… but it apparently works. Somehow people vote for the person who is now on a 9 year long continuous campaign. I remember he had a campaign rally 3 months into his presidency. Would love for it to be different, but there are simply no penalties for running forever campaigns.

[-] dhork@lemmy.world 3 points 22 hours ago

He did that so quickly because he knows how to skim money out of campaigns. I bet he will start a campaign fund for 2028, even though he is ineligible, "just in case".

[-] MossyFeathers@pawb.social 17 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I hope I'm out of the US by 2028. Fuck this dumpster fire of a country.

[-] blindbunny@lemmy.ml 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

I'm gonna vote for who ever Shawn Fain tells me to vote for and I doubt it gonna be a fucking limp dick democrat or a cop

[-] DogPeePoo@lemm.ee 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

2028…? 👌😆🤣 It’s all over but the crying.

You can thank Merrick Garland.

[-] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 4 points 1 day ago

The Democrats won't have absorbed the Guillotine Party by 2028.
