Picked up some of these earplugs recently and highly recommend them. A nuclear bomb could go off down the road and you'd die of radiation poisoning before you ever woke up. Great for tuning in to the harsh inner critic while travelling this holiday season, so if you ever want to be trapped in your head with only the voices to keep you company, pick yourself up a box.

they don't drown out the louder tinnitus I got from my covid vax ๐Ÿ˜–

[โ€“] Pilk@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago

I imagine they would have made tinnitus dramatically worse

Magpie/dero ramblesYet another person going out of their way to go right up to the water dish and gawkโ€ฆ perhaps if I wrote โ€˜wildlife waterโ€™ on the side? Or if I got a proper birdbath and put it more inside the property boundary. (Not sure whether I would have to remove it once I left though. And it would be a target for vandalism.)

A bit worried about potential problems though. Thankfully he didnโ€™t knock it over but when he went up to it a magpie kind of flew up to him and hopped after him as he walked off. The other day someone else might have got swooped as he was loudly complaining about the birds being annoying and saying โ€˜X says some pr-ck in this area is f-cking feeding themโ€™.

Now the birds were already here and would be regardless of whether I was kind to them. They live in that tree. If you got swooped itโ€™s because you went close to their territory in breeding season!

Plus there are a lot of sketchy randos cutting through the block and a lot of them act seriously alcohol affected/aggressive/unpredictable so I donโ€™t really care about them getting swooped. (That might be why it might have happened.) I actually wouldnโ€™t mind if these disruptive people were deterred from my place.

Iโ€™m more just worried about stupid people having normal predictable magpie issues and me being blamed for it, or about being harassed to stop giving them water.

People here are genuinely the type to do that. To come trying to intimidate you for petty reasons and start dictating what you do on your own property.

Iโ€™d honestly rather deal with an aggressive bird because they respond to reasonable accommodations.

Random thoughts that prevent sleep. I have no idea what a chickpea plant looks like. To the interwebs!

[โ€“] Taleya@aussie.zone 6 points 6 months ago (3 children)

today's randomness:

Tool battery powerpacks are usually just literal 18650's chained together. I have a chainsaw one that's actually just a buncha nicads. They don't do replacements. I am not paying another couple hundred for a useful tool that I use once in a blue moon. I know you can get replacement battery packs, but are there small, dodgy shops where they will perform the swap for you?

(I want a battery upgrade which will also need new charger but I am not fuckin' soldering lithiums)

I am not fuckinโ€™ soldering lithiums

I'll do it for you. All I ask as payment is a will kit, a fire extinguisher and a prosthetic hand.

no eyebrows? Great deal!

It's that time of year again

Why don't they play THIS in the shops. Instant customer identification is very high indeed.

this pic I took of a snake at the Royal show

I think it's a northern death adder iirc. So cute!!!

Edit: oh there's also a black house spider behind the exit sign above the fire escape in the hallway. It's all tucked in there, also very cute but no pics lol

I was just about to check my email for the estimated time for my grocery delivery today when they delivered it. Faboulous timing, they most often deliver around 11am for this time window. Mr Woof Is not happy about someone encroaching on our territory though.
