At this point I think it’s good OPSEC to err on the side of caution and assume anything involving Musk is a security threat.

Why single out Musk? Assume any ISP is spying on you and you'll be better off. Use a VPN. He could still track where you are, but not what you're doing.

Because the post is specifically about Starlink and most people are capable of understanding that limiting discussion to what's relevant is not the same as “singling out” Musk.

Any critical infrastructure operated abroad is a security issue. That's why even Europe developed its own alternative to GPS, to not be entirely dependant of the US?

I'm no expert, but I hardly see it being more complicated?

Should India grant a license to the US-based Starlink internet services? Starlink, operated by Elon Musk's SpaceX, is a satellite-based internet company. Starlink is also dangerous. All the drones operated by the Ukrainian Army in its war against Russia are connected by Starlink. In fact, Starlink's internet is a lifeline for the Ukrainian Defense Forces. The Russians are unable to jam Starlink's satellite signal over Ukraine. So, if India were to allow Starlink to operate in India, would it cause a security issue?

not by any fucking stretch "all drones" operate on starlink, these small surveillance and fpv antitank drones are controlled directly by operator. couple of times starlink terminals were spotted on boat drones on black sea, but far from always. there was an incident where musk personally turned off starlink over black sea, when ukrainian sea drones were on the way to destroy ships in port of sevastopol. these drones drifted off uselessly, which gave russians warning, pushed dod to get exclusive use of some part of starlink, and pushed ukrainians to develop their own alternatives. nowadays ukrainians use their own communications. why are you talking about things you clearly have no fucking clue about?

And isn't starlink receiver a backpack-sized thing? Most drones wouldn't be able to carry it at all, and if they could, it's more viable to carry grenades instead. Internet-enabled drones are of a very narrow usage for missions where everything else doesn't make it, e.g. long-distance attacks you mentioned. I guess Cessna drones were controlled via it too.

it's quite big, expensive, and not readily sourced, so when it's used, it's better that it's really worth it. i don't think cessnas need starlink, it would be worth it if it's needed, but i think they might be using inertial + gnss. i heard that some drones had russian sim cards recovered so apparently sometimes gsm is used too. internet connection increases microwave signature greatly, and i'm not sure when it's worth it, other than in cases where video feed is transmitted back and drones are guided manually, but that's sea drones only. cessnas targeting refineries can work fine with gnss (+ maybe some crude tercom?) because refinery won't run away
