This is the best summary I could come up with:

Around 15,000 people turned out at the Place de la Republique, according to police figures, to express solidarity with Palestinians and call for a ceasefire as the death toll from Israeli strikes in Gaza rose to more than 4,700.

"We are here to defend the freedom (of) the people of Palestine, especially with what's happening in Gaza - it's unacceptable," said Noureddine Mansour, a protester present at the Paris rally.

French police said the Paris protest was authorised, unlike others, because a declaration by organisers condemned the Oct. 7 attacks, which killed 1,400 people.

The protest in Paris was called by the collective "National Collective for a sustainable and just peace between Palestinians and Israelis", made up of more than 40 organisations, including left-wing party France Unbowed, the CGT trade union and the organisation "France Palestine Solidarity".

At a peace summit in Cairo on Saturday, French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna said Israel had a right to self-defence and must respect international law, and that a humanitarian corridor to Gaza was necessary and could lead to a ceasefire.

In Brussels, thousands marched through the streets, waving Palestinian flags and chanting "Free Palestine" before gathering outside the European Commission's headquarters.

Has anyone else seen what's getting upvoted on Reddit? It's crazy over there. They are saying and upvoting things I thought I would never see from a public internet crowd. I really hope some kind of manipulation is going on, else it's really fucked

Please could you be specific, so we don't have to check out Reddit, to find out? Not a dig, I'm just trying really hard to avoid the platform after moving. Cheers.

You don't actually say anything, the question is why this comment is being upvoted here.

Reddit is part of the US military-intelligence-surveillance permanent war economy, so it reflects that perspective. Worldnews for example seems to be moderated by IOF people. A former NATO lobbyist is very high up in the company. One time Reddit let slip where their largest concentration of active users was and it was some US air force base. All dissenting views are shut down and the site gets more openly white supremacist by the day.

Can you give a source on that air force base thing? Sounds interesting

Sure, here's an archive link to Reddit's own corporate blog. The page has since been removed from the blog.

An ex-Atlantic Council member is basically their chief moderation officer.

The Atlantic Council is basically a representative for US foreign policy - it's staffed overwhelmingly by (ex) US intelligence and DoD staff. The same is true for Facebook and I assume Google as well.

I cannot understate how important technological independence is in this day and age. The fact that Europe doesn't have robust social media or search is a testament to Europe's decline and Europe's fall into the American sphere of influence.

China has Baidu and WeChat and Russia has Yandex and VK. It's not a surprise that they're also the only big countries which can maintain a coherent anti-Western policy. It isn't necessarily about controlling your population, but about preventing other state actors from controlling your population.

I find Lemmy more caustic. A cop was ambushed and murdered fairly recent and it had alot 50 comments. Absolutely every comment but mine was celebrating it. I was happy to get down votes.
